How Green is Green?

Our office building’s Energy is being provided by the Sun, everything from the computers to the ice machines. In 2008 our electric bill dropped from $450.00 to $5.00 a month. The surplus of electricity we produce goes back to the grid and recycled back to FPL. The technique at heart is the Photovoltaic System which will produce 19.95kw; consisting of 45 panels and 5 inverter boxes, which is enough to supply or usage. It has a 25 year warranty on the panels and 5 year on the inverters. Recycling is also part of our commitment as a Green Business Partner with Sarasota County. Our green mission is to conserve.

Hurricane Seminar May 7

Jansen Shutters and Windows will be attending The City of Venice annual Hurricane Preparation Seminar which take place at Venice City Hall on May the 7th from 8:00am til noon. I would recommend this Seminar to anyone who doesn’t understand the need to be prepared or would like to learn more, for this 2010 Hurricane Season. New Lead Abatement Laws

Jansen Shutters and Windows has been certified for Lead Abatement. Did you know homes older then 1978 can be fined up to $32,000 per day, per occurrence, as of April 22,2010? To comply with the new EPA laws, you must have a licensed lead abatement contractor on site. Before starting any work the home must be tested for lead. If lead is discovered then you must comply with the new EPA removal process of securing the contents of the old materials containing lead and dispose of it properly. This program is administered thru the EPA.

Impact-Resistant Windows and Doors
Both products are manufactured with impact resistant glass.

Code Requirements
* Must be ASTM or TAS approved

Label Requirements
* Shall be on the side or bottom facing the exterior or outside

Upside
* No storage issues
* Protection of the home is 24/7
* 99% of UV is blocked
* Aesthetically pleasing
* Sound reduction
* No labor required

Downside
* More expensive than standard aluminum windows
* If impacted hard enough, the glass will break (the opening will
remain protected)

Opening Protection Requirement
Section 105.15
Any activity requiring a building permit applied on or after July
1, 2008 and has an estimated cost $50,000 or more; for a
building in the wind borne debris region defined by the Florida
building code. Having an insured value of $75,000 or more; or
if the buildings uninsured for which documentation of insured
value is not presented. Having a just valuation for the
structure for purposes of ad valorem taxation of $750,000 or
more.

Opening protections as required within the Florida Building
code, Building and Residential sections for new
construction shall be provided.
