Impact-Resistant Windows and Doors
Both products are manufactured with impact resistant glass.

Code Requirements
* Must be ASTM or TAS approved

Label Requirements
* Shall be on the side or bottom facing the exterior or outside

Upside
* No storage issues
* Protection of the home is 24/7
* 99% of UV is blocked
* Aesthetically pleasing
* Sound reduction
* No labor required

Downside
* More expensive than standard aluminum windows
* If impacted hard enough, the glass will break (the opening will
remain protected)

Opening Protection Requirement
Section 105.15
Any activity requiring a building permit applied on or after July
1, 2008 and has an estimated cost $50,000 or more; for a
building in the wind borne debris region defined by the Florida
building code. Having an insured value of $75,000 or more; or
if the buildings uninsured for which documentation of insured
value is not presented. Having a just valuation for the
structure for purposes of ad valorem taxation of $750,000 or
more.

Opening protections as required within the Florida Building
code, Building and Residential sections for new
construction shall be provided.
